Bill Young, volunteer leader with HumanGood, is the recipient of the 2024 Caritas Award. The award was presented at the PAHSA Fall Gathering, October 27, 2024, in Nashville, Tenn. Bill was presented with a heart-shaped crystal trophy engraved with his name and organization. Along with the trophy, PAHSA will make a donation to the HumanGood Foundation in Bill’s honor. Lynn O’Connor, PAHSA board chair, introduced Bill as the recipient to PAHSA members and guests. She explained, “This award recognizes an individual or group serving among PAHSA’s members who exemplify the Christian virtue to love God and neighbor.” Bill serves as vice-chair of the HumanGood Foundation Board of Directors and as the chair of the HumanGood Bala Foundation. He began service on the Board of Directors of Presby’s Inspired Life (now HumanGood East) in 1994 and for nine years served as its Chair. Bill was nominated by Russ Mast, Vice President of Operations for HumanGood who included letters of endorsement from nine PAHSA and HumanGood leaders. Russ wrote: “Bill has dedicated his life to serving Vice President God and people, particularly older adults. Bill’s faith has guided his vision, decisions, and actions throughout his service with Presby’s Inspired Life (Presby) and HumanGood. “When asked about his 30+ years of service to Presby and HumanGood, Bill shares that he considers it all a ministry. His philosophy is ‘to God be the praise and glory.’ He continuously thanks God for the Holy Spirit working through him, because it is clear to him that the Spirit led—and leads—him through his work. “His passionate generosity and deep commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our residents are reflected in his substantial charitable contributions, supporting benevolence, capital improvements, food security, and other service-enriched programs throughout our organization. Moreover, his outstanding leadership and advocacy beyond the walls of HumanGood have attracted significant donations from faith-based partners and foundations that share our dedication to enhancing the lives of older adults from all backgrounds.” The award is supported by the generosity of PAHSA sponsor Hamlin Capital Advisors. Paul Towell, principle and Sharon Ioannidis, managing director of Hamlin were present at the Fall Gathering to represent Hamlin. PAHSA received five nominations for the 2024 award. Nominations for the 2025 Caritas Award are being received until September 24, 2025. The award will be presented to the recipient at the 2025 Fall Gathering at LeadingAge in Boston, Mass.
