With sadness, but in our sure and certain hope in Jesus Christ, we share the news of the recent passing of two friends of PAHSA, James Emerson and Helen Morrison. James Frederick (“Jim”) Emerson passed away peacefully November 20, 2021, after having undergone a two and one-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old. Jim was a longtime member of PAHSA and provided leadership to many of our events and programs. He served as an advisor and mentor to many PAHSA members and was a friend to us all. Jim served as CEO of Westminster Communities of Florida for 28 years, during which time the organization grew from four to 20 communities. He spent the last years of his life continuing to serve non-profit senior living providers in an advisory capacity, often on a pro-bono basis. Jim is survived by his wife, Sally who lovingly cared for him during his final years. He is also survived by two sons, Eric, and Kurt, three stepsons, David, Doug, and John (Noe), two grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren as well as his sister Cheryl (Dunham), and brothers, David, and John. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be directed to the Emerson Family Philanthropic Foundation, which supports Central Florida charitable organizations he championed. Helen Morrison passed away in her home on November 8, 2021. She was 93 years old. Helen served as Church Liaison to PAHSA for several years and befriended many of us. She was a tireless advocate for older adults, modeling meaningful aging in her own life and mentoring leaders of all ages. Helen served as President of the Presbyterian Older Adult Ministries Network (POAMN). She was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) and served the Presbytery of Detroit as vice moderator, moderator and staff. She was also a two-term member of the General Assembly Council. Her faithful leadership was recognized when she was named the 2014 Woman of Faith by the PCUSA A memorial service is planned for January 22, 2022, at her home church, the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. We are all greatly saddened by Jim’s and Helen’s passing, but we also have so many wonderful memories of these amazing “saints” and champions for older adults. We give thanks to God for their lives and celebrate with them in the promise of resurrection. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing." ~II Timothy 4: 7-8
