We continue in prayer as recovery efforts are underway in Houston, TX in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, including PAHSA member Brazos Presbyterian Home. The two Brazos senior living communities were impacted by floodwaters and just this week the corporate office has recovered internet and phone service. Here's the update from Sheryl Callahan, President and CEO: Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor sustained serious damage as 52 inches of water filled the basement area. Since the original building was constructed in 1963 the basement was where the heart of much of the electrical systems were housed. Now all those systems must be rebuilt and relocated. During the storm all the residents remained safe, dry and well cared for. Many of them are still here in the community working to regain a sense of normalcy, while others have been temporarily relocated to accommodations that have the electricity, AC, TV, phone, internet and care that they need to stay happy and healthy. The staff is working work diligently to restore services at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor. The Hallmark, located about 6 miles north of Brazos Towers, also flooded in the lower level underground parking garage damaging 40 cars belonging to residents and employees. The care center lost air conditioning requiring the evacuation and relocation of residents to family homes, available housing at The Hallmark and to a nearby care center with available rooms. All are receiving good care. Kathleen Kusnicki, Director of Development, wrote, "We are amazed at the loyalty and compassion of our staff. Some have lost their homes and possessions and have been displaced. As all our staff members navigate the dire situation we find ourselves in, we continue to be a family and all of us are demonstrating team spirit." There are many opportunities to extend our hearts in prayer and financial support to senior living residents, employees and others through LeadingAge, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and other qualified organizations. However, if you or your organization would like to donate directly to our sisters and brothers at Brazos, a fund has been set up by the Brazos Presbyterian Homes Develpment Department. Funds received will be designated for recovery, especially to assist employees who have lost their homes, vehicles and whose families need support. Your donation may be sent to Kathleen Kuznicki, Director of Development, Brazos Presbyterian Homes, Inc. 4141 S. Braeswood Blvd. Houston, TX 77025. Please include memo: "Hurricane Recovery" or click here to donate online. Thank you for faithfully upholding PAHSA's commitment to stand with each other in prayer and support exemplifying the Christian values we share.
